Barry S. Spurlock has over 10 years of collective experience in the occupational safety profession working in manufacturing (plant and divisional levels), insurance loss control and academia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety and Risk Management and a Master’s degree in Loss Prevention and Safety Administration, both from Eastern Kentucky University. Barry is currently pursuing his Juris Doctor at the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern KY University. In addition to his work as a loss control consultant with MIA, Barry has taught as adjunct faculty for Indiana University in their occupational safety management and safety science degree programs at the Southeast Campus (IUS) in New Albany. Barry facilitated the founding of the IUS Student Section of American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and is a past President of the Louisville Chapter of ASSE and a member of the Society’s Risk Management and Consultant’s Practice Specialty. He has co-authored the 2008 Lighted Path Publications book entitled "CHOMP COMP - The Small Business Guide to Lower Workers' Comp Premiums." Barry is a frequent speaker at corporate, regional, state and national safety conferences which include the annual ASSE Professional Development Conference and the National Safety Congress.
Keith serves the dual role of administratively directing MIA’s loss control staff and assisting insured companies with their employee injury prevention and workers’ compensation loss control efforts. Keith is the co-author of the 2000 CRC Press text entitled Managing Workers’ Compensation: A Guide to Injury Reduction and Effective Claim Management. He has also co- authored the 2008 Lighted Path Publications book entitled "CHOMP COMP - The Small Business Guide to Lower Workers' Comp Premiums." Keith holds a M.S. in Loss Prevention and Safety from Eastern Kentucky University and is a veteran speaker at Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee Safety and Health Conferences.
James Bryant holds a M.S. in Safety Management from Murray State University and a M.Ed. in Occupational Education from the University of Louisville. A Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and Associate in Loss Control Management, he has also obtained designation as an Associate in Risk Management. Jim has been employed with Midwestern Insurance Alliance in Louisville, Kentucky since February 1999 and conducts loss control consulting pertinent to workers’ compensation. As an adjunct faculty member at Murray State University he instructs in loss control management techniques and hazardous materials operations. Previous safety experience was obtained during his 20-year tenure as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. In addition to co authoring Managing Workers’ Compensation – A Guide to Injury Reduction and Effective Claim Management, Mr. Bryant has also authored articles that appeared in Professional Safety and The Synergist.
